Our History
Blue River Valley Farm has been in the Young family for nearly sixty years. In the past, it was a working farm with cows and pigs. Now, it is home to chickens, two dachshunds, and three cats.
If you’d like, you can get your organic farm fresh eggs right from the chicken coop for breakfast, and during the summer and early fall months, pick the many vegetables in the garden. Fresh zucchini, squash, melons, beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, and peaches, to name a few, are available.
When you take a nature walk around the farm, you can pick blackberries, raspberries, gooseberries, peaches, pears, and apples.
The original structure of the farmhouse was quite small with no indoor plumbing or kitchen. Believe it or not, the original outhouse still stands and has been used by families who camp on the premises. We jokingly say we have two bathrooms, one indoor and one outdoor!
The foundation of the outdoor kitchen was still visible until the renovations began. A new concrete slab was poured over the existing concrete foundation for the kitchen and the hot tub now sits on top. Outdoor kitchens were common a hundred years ago to avoid any potential fires that would destroy the farmhouse.
What They’re Saying…
We really enjoyed our peaceful stay. As senior citizens, this brought back many childhood memories. We have lived in the city for 40 years and forgot the great fresh air smell. We watched the birds at the feeder while we had morning coffee on the huge back porch. It was a pleasure to have fresh eggs and vegetables from the garden. The serenity while sitting on the river’s edge was refreshing. Everything we wanted was supplied. We have stayed in vacation rentals all over the United States and this has become one of our favorites.

The Sum Family -
“We had a wonderful time here on the farm. The kids had a good time fishing and swimming in the river, not to mention the wonderful sidekick, Patchy, the dachshund. The boys and our little girl loved having Patchy with us on the farm. We couldn’t ask for a more enjoyable vacation and Richard and Ashira are wonderful. They made us feel so welcomed.
The Polk Family
We had such a wonderful time here on the farm. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by all the dogs until we had to say goodbye, we truly enjoyed every minute. The boys enjoyed feeding the baby goats (be careful, they might try to eat your shorts!). The river was extremely refreshing and we all caught several fish. We appreciate the fresh vegetables and eggs. I think the highlight of the trip was Patchy. We all really enjoyed his company. Thank you for providing such a memorable experience.

We are traveling back to our home in Kansas from a vacation in Tennessee and we were so glad to have stayed at this beautiful farm on our way! We enjoyed the “hot pool” as our kids refer to the hot tub, a hike down to the river, and watching the animals. Thank you so much for allowing us to spend some much-needed time for rest and relaxation at your beautiful farm. We loved it here!
