Area Attractions

Southern Indiana is blessed to have one of the largest underground cave systems in the country. Less than 10 minutes away from the farm is Marengo Caves with spectacular guided tours every hour. Squire Boone Caves is near Corydon.

For those who love history, Corydon was the original capitol of Indiana prior to it being moved to Indianapolis. You can walk the downtown area, browse the quaint shops and learn about the history of our state’s first capitol. It is only a 20 minute drive away. Map

If you enjoy playing a round of golf, the affordable 18-hole championship Old English Golf Course is only a 15 minute drive west of Blue River Valley Farm. It provides a scenic and challenging round of golf that winds though the hills and down through the streets where the old town of English, Indiana once stood. Map

For wine connoisseurs, seven wineries, all producing fine quality wines comparable to California vintages, are all within a 45 minute drive.

If you like to fish, you don’t have to walk very far. Blue River Valley Farm sits on nearly a mile of the Big Blue River. You can take your fishing poles and catch some small mouth bass.

Canoeing down the Blue River is something you don’t want to miss. You can either use the canoe on the property or you can go to Cave Country Canoes in downtown Milltown and canoe for a longer distance and enjoy the pristine beauty of one of the cleanest rivers in the country. Perhaps you’ll even see the many hawks, heron, turtles, and other wildlife along the way!

Horseback Riding is an option for those who wish to bring their horses. We have a barn that can house two horses and guests are more than welcome to stable them here and go on horseback riding around the farm. For other trails, please ask the owners for information.

In the winter, enjoy superb skiing at Paoli Peaks, just a 20 minute drive from the farm (www.paolipeaks.com). Remember to bring a 4WD vehicle if there's snow, otherwise we might have to pull you up to the farm by tractor!

You have your choice of two gambling casinos, the French Lick Casino at famous French Lick (the great basketball star, Larry Bird, was born there), or in Elizabeth at Horseshoe Casino. Each is unique, with superb shows, entertainment, food, and of course, gambling. Both are approximately a 40 minute drive from the farm.

If you’ve never been to Louisville, it is a 45 minute drive to downtown. Or, if you wish to visit Bloomington, drive an hour and 10 minutes. It is a college town, home of Indiana University, and a host of unique shops and restaurants.

And of course, the home of the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Statehouse is a two and one half hour drive north in Indianapolis.

Staying at Blue River Valley Farm will satisfy any of your wishes and needs. We welcome you to stay for however long you are able.

What They Said...

We really enjoyed our peaceful stay at Blue River Farm.  As senior citizens this brought back many childhood memories.  We have lived in the city for 40 years and forgot the great fresh air smell.  We watched the birds at the feeder while we had morning coffee on the huge back porch.  It was a pleasure to have fresh eggs and vegetables from the garden.  The serenity while sitting on the rivers edge was refreshing.  Everything we wanted was supplied.  The full moon on our last night there was brilliant.   We have stayed in vacation rentals all over the United States and this has become one of our favorites.
